The company was previously known as Lakshmi Foundries Limited and was engaged in the production of CI castings.  Subsequently, as part of restructuring exercise, the foundry operations were shut down in year 1996. Since then, the company has focused its attention on manufacturing of induction motors for the textile industry. The company was re-christened as Lakshmi Electrical Drives Limited, at the beginning of the new millennium, to go in line with the product manufactured.
